When: Saturday, July 24, 2021; 1:00 PM CDT
Where:Webinar free to ARS members ($10 non-members). Check your ARS email for code and registration details.
Agenda: "GOING THE DISTANCE" with William J."Will/Bill" Radler, creator of the Knock Out Rose®. Will Radler who will discuss the rose industry today, marketing challenges, competition, diseases (and perception of diseases), breeding priorities, IPM.
One might expect that the world’s best selling rose was conceived in a laboratory under the direction of a seasoned rose breeder holding many horticultural degrees. Instead, a nine year old with two quarters in his pocket changed the rose industry forever. Radler shares a blow-by-blow account of his journey from fringe contender to international champ. The behind-the-scenes details will both amaze and inspire you.
Making it to the main event is one thing. Sustaining is another. Radler, with his unconventional methods, is certainly doing something right with 50 plant patents to his name.
Fast forward to 2021. Modern day rose breeding has evolved dramatically. Going toe-to-toe in today’s industry presents both opportunities and challenges. Learn an insider’s perspective of the state of the revitalized industry.

The New England Rose Society has been helping people grow better roses since 1940.
Why should I join the New England Rose Society?
Because I am not sure if rose gardening is for me, but I would like to find out.
Because I would like to learn more about roses in a friendly environment.
Because I love roses and want to share my enthusiasm with others.
Who are we?/What is the New England Rose Society?
We are a community of people from all walks of life united by our love and passion for America’s favorite flower — the Rose.
What does the New England Rose Society do?
The New England Rose Society seeks to educate its members and the public in all aspects of rose culture.
In addition to outstanding guest speakers at each meeting, we offer special seminars for in-depth exploration of rose topics, such as soil chemistry, budding and hybridizing, and pest and disease control. Members receive discounts on roses and garden center merchandise.
Whether you are about to plant your very first rose or already have several roses in your garden, you’ll find a wealth of information in our monthly programs, newsletter, Consulting Rosarians and on-line resources. You’ll also have the opportunity to exhibit roses in our June Rose Show, the Yankee District Rose Show and National Rose Shows.
